Jan-Öjvind Swahn death – Swedish Dagbladet

Jan-Öjvind Swahn became a much loved profile in both radio and television as the host of “Ask Lund” and “Double or nothing”. He was also one of the famous “Beard” in television in the 1960s.

“Ask Lund” was first broadcast in autumn 1962 and continued until December 2000 when it finally closed down by SVT. Jan-Öjvind Swahn was both host and panelists during the first years and was himself to recruit the other participants in the program. Among his colleagues were historian Jorgen Weibull, physicist Sten von Friesen, linguist Gerhard Bendz, medical student David Ingvar and zoologist Carl H Lindroth. Swahn became the last panelist in life. One of the first programs can be seen on SVT Open File.

Swahn has written numerous books on the subject folklore, and also had a place in the Gastronomic Academy. He became an associate professor of ethnology at Lund in 1955 and was also folklorist at Åbo Akademi University in 1977 until 1992. He was the main work is The tale of Cupid and Psyche (1955), according to the National Encyclopedia.
