August Prize to be reviewed – Göteborgs-Posten

The prize annually awarded to the best literature has previously been criticized. Now seen the prestigious August Prize over and a working group to discuss price categories and nomination process.

To be nominated for the August Prize is seen as prestigious in itself, even more, of course, that get actual price. As Laureate criticize the price raises extra attention in the industry. Just this made the author Jessica Schiefauer last fall, when she felt that children and youth price should be two, divided into age categories. Also Adlibris CEO Johan Kleberg has been critical of the arrangement, which he spoke about the trade days in February.

When GP earlier talked to Kristina Ahlinder, CEO of the Swedish Publishers’ Association, which publishes the price, as well as with Eva Bonnier is Chairman of the board, have both emphasized the importance of changes regarding the August Prize must be done with great accuracy. Some new categories were not present.

Now, however Publishers decided to revise the price, says Swedish Bookstore.

A working group has been established to analyze the price. The group consists of Richard Herold, publishing director of Nature & amp; Culture, Moa Elf Karlen, publishing director at Leopard publisher, Eva Gedin, head of publishing at Norstedts, Jesper Monthan, group publisher at Albert Bonniers and Erik Titusson, publishing director at Little Piratförlaget. They have their first meeting in April and the mission is to review the award categories, the nominations go to and the timing of when the nominations are announced, writes Swedish Bookstore, SvB.

– Criticism is a view that we want to see the price. It has been around for almost 30 years and it’s also reasonable that we look over the structures now, says Kristina Ahlinder to SvB and adds that if anything should be changed so it will probably not be this year.

– The will take the time it takes.

August Prize awarded to the Swedish fiction book, this year’s Swedish non-fiction, and Best Swedish children’s and young adult.
