Dressed in a sailor suit on a bar invites Channing Tatum in an amazing song, dance and tap dance number. To Tatum can move, he has shown in the Magic Mike films. In Hail, Caesar! match Tatum’s innovative dance moves actually Gene Kelly in the Singin’ in the rain (1952).

DeeAnna Moran (Scarlett Johansson) has been wearing a tight-fitting mermaid costume. Moran namely starring in a synchronized movie in Esther Williams-style.

Hobie Doyle (an unexpectedly Alden Ehrenreich) tries to take the step from singing cowboy in tramsiga west movies to starring in a serious costume drama. Since Doyle is a lousy actor who is not capable of delivering even the simplest reply, he runs fast director Laurence Laurentz (Ralph Fiennes) to insanity.

How can all this fit in the same movie? The answer is that Hail, Caesar! unfolding at a Hollywood studio, early 1950s.

The Coen brothers who directed, produced and written the script. Since the feature film debut Blood Simple in 1984, the Coen Brothers made such diverse films as Miller’s Crossing (a gangster film), Intolerable Cruelty (a screwball comedy) and True grit (the West). There is a common thread. In all his films, playing with the Coens, and celebrates, various different genres.

Hail, Caesar! is primarily a film for film critics who like to show off their skills and for cineastes who is an expert on film history. Or let me say this: If you prefer to watch the Transformers than Fred Astaire, it becomes difficult to keep up with all the jokes and movie references.

The film, takes place over one day , begins and ends with Eddie Mannix (ace Josh Brolin) in the confession booth. Mannix has enormous problems to solve, but the confession he is only concerned that he secretly smoked cigarettes, maybe three.

Mannix Production Manager at Capitol Picture. The work consists of checking that all filming float on which they will, no scandals from leaking out to the press (represented by Tilda Swinton X 2) and that the studio’s biggest star Baird Whitlock, played by George Clooney, is sober now it just remains a few scenes to shoot in the religious blockbuster Hail, Caesar !, set during the Roman period.

Mannix has iron track of everything except Whitlock.

working harbors film company boss in discussions about religion (is Jesus really the son of God?), on politics and on the Communist terror, there are some clear parallels to the Trumbo , which premiered a week ago.

As a whole, gives the film a vimsigt impression. There is no clear storyline. Some jokes, such as how the director Laurence Laurentz want to pronounce his last name pros and pulled out ad absurdum (but it’s still pretty fun).

This time the brothers are content Coen to give us glimpses of how it could look like and go to the dream factory for more than 60 years ago. For me it is enough good so.
