A half-baked loaf of bread without yeast – Aftonbladet

ROCK It rattles empty.

The question is if the masses would have listened if they had been forced to pay for “Songs of Innocence”

There is a risk that the group’s thirteenth studio album will be remembered as a PR coup that were given away at a press conference for American technology company Apple.

The idea that the unannounced release an album for free to over 500 million iTunes users, deserves a murmur through the crowd. No artist on the same level have done it before. But almost everything else U2 has done better.

The idea is that song “California (There is no end to love)” is a tribute to the Beach Boys and pop that lets the sunshine sifted through palm leaves. But 2014 would not hear U2 do some sort of version of Brian Wilson “Barbara Ann” -körer where they sing “Santa Barbara, Ba-Ba-Barbara”. It is urfånigt.

“The Miracle (of Joey Ramone)” describes the Bono his young life inflection point, the moment when he heard Ramones for the very first time. But it sounds like most of the boy band 5 Seconds Of Summer or The Fooo sing about their idols.

“Iris (hold me close) ‘is about Bono’s mother as the singer has catered for four decades. How such a substance can be dressed in lightweight Maroon 5 -välling is incomprehensible. Feels like the band tried to glue the two songs that do not fit together. It is not at all the same emotional drama when Bono avhandlade his father in “Sometimes You Can not Make It On Your Own” on the album “How to dismantle an atomic bomb”.

There is also a tribute to the The Clash here. But we like to talk quietly about, thank you very much.

If there is a word , which describes “Songs of Innocence”, the title alludes to the band inspired by childhood and the memories and the music they listened to in Dublin before they became global rock band, it’s just that – “but.” Or maybe “meh”? It is easier to describe what the album is not.

U2′s existence is based on delivering blockbusters. And after that last album “No Line on the Horizon” with the group’s standards tokfloppade have Larry, Adam The Edge and Bono hired a renowned team of songwriters and producers to repair the damage.

Ryan Tedder and Paul Epworth was behind Adele bestseller “21″, for example. And Danger Mouse , including known for Gnarls Barkley hit “Crazy”, is in turn a little kreddigare alibi.

But where before U2 released the epic album with its own identity and looked to the future is “Songs of Innocence” is often a nostalgic half-baked loaf of bread without yeast. The band seems to neither know who they want to be taller or how they should sound.

In the 90′s named rock band Bob dog an ep to “Instead of music – confusion”.

A modified version of the title describes both U2′s current Facebook status and contemporary fine.

Instead of music – distribution.
