The Dutch musician, conductor and renowned recorder player Frans Brüggen has died, reports Swedish Radio “Culture New.”
Brüggen led several leading classical orchestras in Europe during his long career, including Radio Kamerorkest, and especially Orkest van de Achttiende eeuw. The latter was founded by Brüggen with Sieuwert Verster, and was an exclusive orchestra specializing in 1700s music performed on authentic instruments from the time period.
Brüggen was a role model for many successful recorder lard, including Swedish Per Gross.
Frans Brüggen was 79 years old.
